Empowering Your Second Half of 2021

From the General Manager's Desk | Empowering Your Second Half of 2021

Congratulations, you made it halfway through the 2021 calendar year. In this July edition of From the General Manager’s Desk, I am raising important topics intended to empower your success through the rest of the year.

As professionals, subject matter experts, business leaders, and valuable members in the life safety industry, we strive to become more successful year after year. Just a few months ago, you and your organization set goals and ushered in the new year. Time flies by and flies by fast.

The halfway point of the year is a perfect time to reflect on the past six months to determine how successful you and your company were in the first half of 2021.

Take a moment and ask yourself these questions:

Is your plan unfolding just as you had intended?

Have you experienced some unforeseen situations that have prevented you from being as successful as you would like?

What can you do differently in the second half of the year to help achieve your goals?

How will you differentiate your organization to establish a sustainable competitive advantage for many years to come?

After you have answered the questions listed above, you will fall into one of the four situations listed below:

1. Your plan is working, and everything is going well.

2. You are currently achieving success but unsure how the second half of the year will go.

3. Your plan did not go as expected, and you need to modify your plan for the second half of the year.

4. You don’t even have time to reflect on the first part of the year.

Regardless of how successful your first six months of 2021 were, it would benefit anyone to take time to review your goals, as well as the plan you created to reach them. I recommend that you renew your view so you feel empowered to achieve greatness throughout the next six months.

Here are a few important topics that can help reset your mindset.

What is Passion?

Passion is the love for what you do. It is a strong and hardly controllable emotion.

When you are passionate about something, it is an important part of your life and who you are, but not necessarily the center of your universe. Passion is important but it is not all about passion.

“Your passion is waiting for your courage to catch up.”
Isabelle Lafleche

What is Purpose?

Purpose is defined as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

You will be passionate about your purpose, but not all passions will be your purpose.

Once you have found your purpose, it becomes the center of your universe, and everything you do revolves around it.

“Clarify your purpose. What is the why behind everything you do? When we know this in life or design it is very empowering and the path is clear.”
Jack Canfield

What is Motivation?

Motivation is defined as the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.

It is the general desire or willingness of someone to do something.

Motivation is a pulling force.

“Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it.”
Lou Woltz

What is Inspiration?

Inspiration is defined as the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. It is a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea. Inspiration is something that you feel on the inside that acts as a driving force.

“Inspiration exists but it has to find you working.”
Pablo Picasso

Decision-making positions within the life safety industry are often challenged with a long list of tasks, committed to fulfilling obligations, and focused on the routines that were established in the prior months and years. It is easy to go through the motions without really paying attention to the decisions we’re making or the implications of those decisions.

When you make an effort to reflect on your goals as well as the plan you established to achieve your goals, it can unlock the state of mind necessary for you and your organization to see opportunities that you didn’t see before.

By reviewing your passions, purpose, motivation, and inspiration, you will begin to see things differently and become aware of things that were not obvious before.
