Learn about how we can help you with our Comprehensive Material Takeoff Service by reading further.

What is a “takeoff” and why would I need one?

A takeoff (or take-off, take off) is simply a determination of how much material is needed for a project. Once the variety of measurements in the project are calculated, the amount of material needed can be determined. This is the foundation for creating job quotes during a job bidding process.

You would need to do a takeoff for any kind of project that has lots of strict measurements involved – for example, building-code required photoluminescent egress path markings, where lines of material are placed on stair handrails, wall and/or floor perimeters, stair step-edges, landings, and more. These types of project takeoffs are our specialty at American PERMALIGHT®. The takeoff process helps ensure that the material costs stay within the budget for a project.

Are takeoffs only for egress path marking projects?

Takeoffs are a huge part of photoluminescent egress path marking projects since there is an incredible amount of detailed measurements involved, but it is not the only type of project that would need takeoffs.

We perform takeoffs for IBC projects (such as the aforementioned photoluminescent egress path markings) as well as non-IBC projects, such as essential safety improvements for a facility like installing lengths of safety foam guards and capping sharp metal corners with protective foam corners, or marking off floors in industrial environments (e.g., guiding around racks or machinery) with Mighty Line® floor tape.
