PERMALIGHT® Project Spotlight: Federal Buildings

PERMALIGHT® Project Spotlight | Federal Buildings

The PERMALIGHT® Photoluminescent Egress Path Marking System is installed in buildings all across the United States of America, including some key federal buildings. Federal buildings have particular requirements for photoluminescent egress path markings, stair identification signs, and exit signs that both meet NFPA 101 requirements and P-100 Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings Service.

Facilities Standards (P100) Overview

The Facilities Standards for the Public Buildings Service (P-100) establishes design standards and performance criteria for the GSA Public Buildings Service.

6.3.1 LIGHTING CRITERIA

6.3.1.8 EXIT STAIR ILLUMINATION AND PHOTOLUMINESCENT MATERIALS

Exit enclosures where photoluminescent materials are installed must comply with the requirements in NFPA 101. When photoluminescent materials are present, the lowest light level must be selected to keep the photoluminescent material fully charged.

Enclosed stairway lighting must be dimmed to no higher than 50 percent during periods of inactivity with brightness automatically raised upon detecting occupancy.

6.3.3 SECURITY LIGHTING, EXIT SIGNS, AND EMERGENCY LIGHTING

6.3.3.2 EXIT SIGNS

Exit signs must meet the requirements in NFPA 101 and be energy efficient and environmentally friendly products (e.g., light-emitting diodes (LED type), photoluminescent type. Tritium exit signs must not be installed.

PERMALIGHT® Photoluminescent UL924-listed Rigid PVC Exit Sign, Green Lettering, Single-Sided

PERMALIGHT® UL924-listed Exit Signs fit into the NFPA 101 and P-100 standard since PERMALIGHT® photoluminescence is activated by ambient lighting, is non-radioactive, and non-toxic, thus being the energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly choice for buildings. PERMALIGHT® exit signs are building-code compliant for photoluminescent safety and don’t require special handling for disposal at the end of their long life since they are non-radioactive.
