About Kluczynski Federal Building

PERMALIGHT® Project Spotlight: Kluczynski Federal Building

Designed by Chicago architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1975, the 43-story John C. Kluczynski Federal Building and Loop Station Post Office is named after former U.S. Congressman John Carl Kluczynski, who served from 1951-75. The building is part of the Chicago Federal Plaza, bordered by Clark Street (west), Jackson Boulevard (south), Dearborn Street (east), and Adams Street (north) in the city’s downtown “Loop” district. The main plaza to the north features Flamingo, a red steel creation by world-renowned sculptor Alexander Calder.
